Clergy Alliance

The Newark Department of Public Safety’s Clergy Alliance program comprises clergy members from a wide variety of faiths to assist police in supporting individuals, families and crime victims by offering counseling, consolation and a caring presence as needed. These volunteers also join police in making visits to victims, witnesses, hospitals, schools and by addressing other situations in which spiritual or caring comfort may be welcomed. Clergy members often participate in events such as National Night Out, Police and Fire graduations and swearing in ceremonies and assist with our Citizen Clergy Academy classes.
